Twisted River Farm CSA Overview - Main Season

We are excited to share with you our Main Season Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Our CSA is designed to provide you with a bountiful selection of fresh, organic produce throughout the growing season. Here's an overview of what you can expect from our CSA program:

1. What is a CSA?

A CSA is a partnership between farmers and community members. By joining our CSA, you become an integral part of our farm and support our local food system. In return, you receive a weekly or BI-WEEKLY share of the farm's harvest, filled with a variety of seasonal vegetables and herbs.

2. Main Season Duration

Our Main Season CSA runs for 15 weeks, from June to October. During this time, you will witness the vibrant transformation of our farm as it evolves through the seasons, from the sweeter early summer crops to the hearty fall harvest.

3. Box Contents and Variety

Each DELIVERY, you will receive a carefully curated CSA box filled with a diverse selection of freshly-picked produce. YOU CAN EXPECT MOSTLY staple vegetables and a few seasonal surprises. YOUR BOX WILL CONTAIN a range of greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, root vegetables, herbs, and MUCH more.

4. Seasonal Planning

Our team puts a lot of thought and planning into our CSA program. OUR meticulous crop rotation AND planting techniques WILL provide you with a plentiful harvest. We take into account weather conditions, pests, and disease management, ensuring that the quality of your produce exceeds your expectations.

5. Supporting Local

By joining our CSA, you become an important supporter of local agriculture. You directly contribute to reducing food miles, supporting biodiversity, and promoting community resilience by strengthening the local food system. Your membership helps us continue our commitment to PROVIDING NORTH IOWA WITH FRESH, HEALTHY PRODUCE.

6. Additional Benefits

Apart from the weekly CSA box, membership in our program offers additional perks. As a CSA member, you'll receive our farm newsletter, which includes recipes, storage tips, and updates on farm activities. You'll be invited to connect with fellow CSA members through our private Facebook group, fostering a sense of community around food and farming.
Join our Main Season CSA program and experience the joy of eating fresh, seasonally-inspired produce while supporting our farm.

FAQ:

  • What if I won’t be able to accept my delivery on a particular week?

A new feature we added this year is called a “vacation week”. You can claim a vacation week up to 3 days before delivery. If you claim your vacation week, your account will automatically be credited for that week. You can then use that credit for add-on purchases or towards future CSA shares. Otherwise, we encourage having a friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker etc pick it up for you or for themselves.

  • How do I order?

Click over to our order page to select the options that fits you best.

  • Can I choose what I get each week?

No. Our shares will be a variety of what we have available each week. Due the nature of our delivery style distribution, It’s impossible for us to customize each box to each customer.

  • Can I add on extra items from the weekly availability list?

Absolutely! You can still add items on each week from our online store. We’ll include a link to the store in our weekly email to you.

  • I’m a little confused, can you explain what I’ll be getting each week?

We'll deliver an assortment of the various things we grow; you decide if you want a delivery every week or every other week.

A sample week might look like this: 1 bag of Spring Mix, 1 bag of Summer Crunch, 1 head of broccoli, 1 bunch of radishes, 1 bunch of carrots, 1 quart of green beans, 1 bunch of kale, 1 head of garlic, and 1 zucchini. Then the next week might look like this: 1 bag of spinach, 1 head of lettuce, 1 bunch beets, 1 bunch of green onions, 3 red tomatoes, 1 pint of cherry tomatoes, 2 cucumber, 4 ears of sweet corn. We try to make each box full of all of the popular staples with an occasional lessor known product included to satisfy the more curious members.

We grow over 40 different types of vegetables so the variety will change each week depending on seasonality and availability.
