With April half over, it has been and continues to be GO TIME at Twisted River Farm. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately.
Planting season continues full throttle. Our first beds, planted on April 3, emerged this week, just in time for us to plant field number two. The weather has taken a chilly turn so we’re hoping for some warm and sunny days to make the planted crops happy.
Everything that’s been planted in the high tunnel and caterpillar tunnels are growing nicely (see arugula above for a great example), even with the seemingly never-ending clouds. Tomatoes will be planted in the high tunnel in a few weeks, and we’re excited for that first taste of ripe red fruit. We are patiently waiting for the plot of land we plowed to dry out so we can smooth it out and plant the rye cover crop. Our fingers are crossed that will happen next week.
The Gathering is coming up on May 1. The Osage Farmers’ Market opens May 6–hard to believe that’s just 3 weeks away! Basically what we’re saying is there are lots of exciting things on the horizon!
On May 1, our farm crew will arrive! This year we’ll have 3 employees (versus just one, like years past). We’ll be sure to introduce you to them!
Recipes continue to be added to our website, in partnership with Jenn Arndt, RD. If you haven’t checked out our recipe page lately, you’re missing out. It’ll give you some great ideas for creative ways to use our greens.
That’s all for now!
