You might recall earlier this year when we shared the news that we were awarded a SARE grant. If not, no worries, you can catch up to speed here. We’re working in partnership with Jellum Farms to build our fourth hoop house. This hoop house will be heated using a geothermal heat exchange. This is exciting because it allows us to control humidity and temperature all year long in an environmentally-friendly way.
As of mid-June, the process has begun. First on the agenda: trenching for water and electric from the pump house. This looks like a good chunk of work, and yet it’s the smallest of the planned digging phases.
When complete, the inner trenches will be 6 feet deep and will house the geothermal line. Up next? Trenching 150 feet over to the existing geothermal system in another hoop house.
We’ll keep you posted with updates because it’s an interesting process and we’re excited about what it means for TRF (hint hint: more greens and more produce all year long! A win for us and for you!)
