Our second hoophouse, funded by a SARE grant, is actually looking like a one after this past week! The arches finally came in (you may recall supply chain issues put us on hold back in August).
We used a lift to help us get the plastic over to seal it, and it made things easy peasy!
Since we got things all set up, we’ve tilled and shaped the beds, and we planted mid-week! We’re excited to see what this winter will bring having a geothermal-heated hoophouse!
Now? We wait. Because of dwindling sunlight hours, the plants we put in this week won’t be ready to harvest until Christmastime or a little later. The warm temperatures this month may speed that up though.
If all goes according to plan, using this tunnel as our cache in the deepest parts of the winter in combination with out other three tunnels, we hope to have a steady supply of leafy greens all the way through the winter.
